Combes, Willard

Willard Combes (b. 1901 d.1984)

Willard Combes was an editorial cartoonist for the Cleveland Press. Perhaps best known for his World War II cartoons especially focused on sale of War Bonds, he was also a portrait artist, painted area murals, and created stained glass windows in several churches. His work is varied in style. The cartoon lampooning entry to the May Show captures the expectant mood when crowds anticipated the opening event.
